Bursary
A bursary is available to all SCITT PGCE trainees. Details are set out below. These details are correct for 2010-2011 trainees, but may vary in the future:

Bursary payments are not taxable and are made in 9 monthly instalments from NETT SCITT (on the 5th working day of the month from October to June).
Grants and Loans
Trainees are entitled to apply for the following:
- A means tested grant. This can be applied for via Student Finance England at: http://direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

- Trainees can also apply to Student Finance England for a Student Loan and a Tuition Fee loan, both of which are repayable once trainees are earning over £15 000 p.a. Repayment of loans begins when trainees are earning over £15,000 p.a.
Tuition Fees for SCITT Trainees
The maximum tuition fee chargeable for the academic year 2010/11 is £3,290. NETT SCITT fees will be £2250 for the academic year 2010-2011. This is for our PGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education). It also includes access to Masters level course units in conjunction with Essex University.
Payment of Fees
Please note trainees will be required to pay the £2,500 tuition fees and can fund their training by the following options:
- Payment by cheque in 2 equal instalments of £1125 (due October and January) direct to NETT.
- Apply for a Tuition fee loan which will be paid directly to us from Student Finance England.
- Combination of 1 & 2 above.
Golden Hello
Trainees will usually be eligible for a ‘Golden Hello’ on satisfactory completion of their first year as a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT). This is taxable income. Maths and Science trainees receive a £5,000 ‘Golden Hello’ ICT, trainees receive a £2,500 ‘Golden Hello’ English and History trainees do not receive a ‘Golden Hello’
GTP Trainee Funding
Trainees on the employment based route will usually receive a training salary in the region of £14,500 (taxable income). It may be the case that individual schools will agree to pay an enhanced salary during the training period. Graduate Teachers are NOT eligible for the bursary, grants, student loans or the ‘Golden Hello’
